Title
Church Completes Pony Express Run
Description
A new spirit of teamwork filled the Rossville United Methodist Church Sunday, January 30, as a result of the climax of the Pony Express Stewardship Campaign. General Manager Doug French, dressed as a dusty Pony Express rider, gave everyone in the congregation a rousing send-off for the Pony Express. Doug praised the enthusiasm the Reverend Damewood and his family have brought to the church. This enthusiasm, he said, has spread to the members uniting everyone into a closer Christian fellowship, thus making the Pony Express Stewardship Campaign for the Rossville United Methodist Church such a success.
The one day “Run,” now over, proved a success — even with the obstacle of the snow. The trail bosses helped get the saddle bags from family to family. This year the trail bosses were: Howard Parr, Luther McClain, Nancy Brooks, Bob Macha, Ed Claytamp, Denny Keller, Leonard Boyles, Bob Gentry, Tom Hedges and Doug French. Doug praised the dedication of the route riders, trail bosses, station agents and other key workers, whose cooperative efforts enabled the “church mail” to be carried in saddlebags across the community. Cooks for the chuck wagon dinner were Elsie Rasch, Edith McClain and Sophia Dayton. Ralph and Ruth Page loaned the covered wagon for the Campaign.
The Reverend Damewood said he was pleased with the results of the Stewardship Campaign. He said the members showed they have a great faith and a willingness to have the church meet its budget.
