This building has been identified as a general store constructed in 1857. Major Samuel T. Shore and his partner, McWhinny, established the business on the northwest corner of Mt. Pleasant and Fremont in Prairie City. The store was later operated by John Doak who also had a flour mill.
Description
Detached residence, rectangle with central entrance, two stories, coursed rubble stone masonry construction, gable roof. Frame gable stoop on columns, two large display windows flanking entrance, original 6/6 double-hung windows are deteriorated and altered, glazed wooden entrance door, ornamental gable and shingling. 1-1/2 story wood frame ell addition with shed additions.
