Subject
Charles P. Ives purchased a lumber company in Media (W. Baldwin) June 1883. Then he established a lumberyard at 8th and High in Baldwin City. His son-in-law, F. M. Hartley, bought an interest int he business in 1907. Ives died October 29, 1913 but Hartley carried out plans for construction of a nes building. The existing Ives-Hartley detached building was opened June 27, 1914.
Description
Lumberyard, rectangle with center aisle, one-and-a-half-story central bay flanked by one story bays, brick masonry front and sides, tunning bond, wood frame rear, central monitor roof and low shed side roofs. Central wooden garage door, glazed wooden entrance door in E & W bays with display windows, paired 6-light monitor windows, front is modeled in recessed brick panels with corbeled eaves, smooth-cut stone sill, lintels and pier caps, name and datestones with raised letters.
