There may have been a dwelling on this tract as early as 1890 when the south half of lots 122-132 on Indiana Street was assessed at $400.00. Maggie E. Hyde was the owner. Sarah Markham, mother of W.C. Markham, editor of the Baldwin Ledger and postmaster, was the owner in 1894. This remained the Markham residence until the property was sold to the Zeta Chi fraternity in 1923.
Description
Fraternity house, rectangle with central entrance, large modern rear addition W, two stories, three front bays, wood frame construction with weatherboard first floor and shingles second floor, rough-cut coursed stone foundation, hipped roof. Hipped front porch with brick piers, open railing, hipped entry on columns N, 1/1 double-hung wooden windows, hipped wall dormers, brick external chimney SSE. This property has been renovated and substantially altered.
