KSU Offers Short Course for Young Farmers
Art Campbell of Rossville is par¬ticipating in the Kansas State University short course for young farmers, January 14 to March 7.
There are 56 men enrolled in the eight-week program designed to help farmers who are unable to participate in a two or four-year course of study.
Carroll V. Hess, KSU dean of agriculture, said, “All these young men, if they remain in farming, will eventually be managing a very sizeable capital investment. They will be working on close margins where the difference between success and failure will hinge on wise management decisions.”
Campbell will be studying four subject areas. The agricultural economics class emphasizes business management. Agronomy provides basic principles and practices of soil management, seed, crop growth, weed and insect control. An animal sciences course focuses on nutrition, breeding and marketing. The ag engineering applications course outlines grain drying, storage and handling; irrigation, soil and water conservation, and farm facilities planning. Par¬ticipants earn eight college credits for the short course.
Instructors of the program are K- State faculty, Extension agents and experiment station personnel. The young farmers attend classes and laboratories located at the Manhattan campus.
Campbell is a 1965 graduate of Rossville High School.
