Description

Campbell Nominee for Young Farmer Award

Art L. Campbell, 32, a Rossville farmer, will be among the nominees for the Kansas Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Farmer Award to be hosted to a weekend at Emporia February 15-17, 1980. The winners in the statewide competition will be announced at formal ceremonies at the conclusion of activities that weekend.
Campbell, who holds a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Emporia, has been active in farming for seven years. He is the sole proprietor of 1,300 acres under cultivation west of Rossville.
Farm improvements have been an important part of the Campbell operation over the past seven years. One third of the ground is tested and fertilizer is applied including trace materials as indicated. Anhydrous, herbicides and insecticides are used as required. Ditches and drainage have also been improved through the use of sloping and small terraces. Two center- pivots were installed for irrigation on a new fourth-mile system and grass was planted along roadways and ditches and waterways. Old buildings and feed lots were torn down and the eight acres they consumed were returned to production.
Campbell and his wife Marilyn have two children. Their daughter Heather is six years old and son Matt is three.
