1944 4-H Kansas Free Fair & Meetings, Rossville, Kansas
Description
MORRELL'S HOST TO 4-H CLUBS
September 7, 1944 John Morrell & Co. of Topeka, will again be host to the 4-H Club members in Shawnee and surrounding counties for a Grand Barbecue and entertainment September 12 at the Kansas Free Fair. The affair will be held at the Morrell enclosure, just north of the grandstand, beginning at 5. p. m.
More than 1000 invitations have already been sent out but it is impossible to contact all the club members individually so Morrell's ask that those who have not received invitations write to the Company directly for tickets.
Beside the 30 clubs in Shawnee County, county agents in Brown, Coffey, Douglas, Geary, Jackson, Jefferson, Lyon, Morris, Nemaha, Osage, Pottawatomie, Riley and Wabaunsee counties have been notified of the event and the agents in turn are informing club leaders and officers in their districts.
Approximately 2000 attended the last Morrell Barbecue at the 1942 Kansas Free Fair. "Because of war time conditions," Manager R. M. Owthwaite said, "we do not expect the attendance we might otherwise have. We regret, too, that we must limit the adult invitations to the club leaders. This is an event for the youngsters—4-H clubs are one of the most worthwhile organizations we have," he added, "and we give them our wholehearted support."
