703 Ninth
Baldwin City, Ks 66006
Subject
Construction of this house in 1884 was indicated by an increase in assessed value from $30.00 to $280.00. Lake and Cooper were the owners. The lots were divided in 1888. Stephen Lake retained this property; George M. Cooper received the adjacent lot. In that year Lake's property was valued at $350.00. The increase may reflect a building addition which is suggested by the existing complex form. Lake, a grocer, was listed as residing with his wife Addie on Grove Street at the corner of Ninth Street in 1902.
