Description

Detached residence, cruciform plan with side entrance, one-and-a-half-story, wood frame and weatherboard, coursed rough-cut stone foundations, gable roof. Rear shed porch, 1/1 and 4/1 double hung wooden windows, front bay window NW, glazed wooden entrance door, interior brick chimney, hipped roof dormer with pedimented crown above entrance. Window sill ornament, leaded window panes, ornamental beam ends NW bay, frieze-board, window hood moldings, shingled gable ends. Front porch removed, modern rail and landing.
Construction of this house was indicated by the increase in the assessed value in 1905 from $50 to $330. George R. Benedict was the owner. Benedict and his wife Sarah were listed as residing on Eighth at the corner of Dearborn Street in 1902.
