Flour was manufactured there until the 1880s and later the mill was used for coarser products. The Pottawatomi Indians were the principal patrons as they brought their grist to be ground. Ben F. He practiced medicine in Willard, Kansas, around 1905 to 1922, when he moved to Rossville, Kansas. He married Rose Humphrey in February 1906. He owned one of the first automobiles in Rossville, a K-R-I-T, in 1912. He practiced medicine in Rossville until 1959, retiring only three months before he died in June of 1959. His medical office was located at the present location of Main Street and Pottawatomie. Peter Navarre was born March 26, 1884, in Rossville. He worked at the Rossville News office, then owned by U.G. Stewart, from 1901-1903 and 1904-1909. He married Minnie Massey on September 24, 1910. Bill and Betty Murray purchased the paper in March of 1953 after the Navarres retired. The Navarre's lived at the present site of 534 Main Street. Title A name given to the resource Oliver Nursery grafting house, Rossville, Kansas Description An account of the resource The Oliver Nursery was operated by brothers Tom and Charles Oliver. The Oliver nursery grew seedlings for root stock used for grafting and budding of different fruit varieties. They also raised general farm crops and livestock. They processed the seedlings and shipped most of them to other nurseries in Iowa. This was a large business employing many people. Mr. Henry Martin, Walter Patton, and Louis Burns were foremen for the firm. The Nursery ceased operation during the 1930s as did many other businesses.
